Apple orchards don't usually have goats

But this one did. The family and I picked apples, took a tractor ride, pet bunnies and fed the goats this weekend, and it was pretty much fun. Want to know the secret? All that only took about 90 minutes.

Stop what you are doing and go buy a tandem bike

First time ever on a tandem bike, and the back no less, and I am getting one just as soon as the bank forecloses on my farm.

Emily and her coworker Rebecca came over on Rebecca's tandem bike and these things are sweet.

Jen and I on the bike. Also prominently featured in this photo: my neighbor Ernie's arm. He was riding on the front handlebars, documenting the entire event for posterity.

Also, a video. It appears as though I am biking drunk here. Cars.

Family dinner, two guys in pink (and neither one is me!)

Jen made a giant pot of risotto, using my grandma's 100 year old receipe. Have you tried this? No, not the same as the stuff you get at the restaurant, either.

This, in conjunction with a great salad, chicken and a decent glass of wine, tasted great after my long day of running and riding.

Best part? The whole family came over. There is my dad and grandpa on the couch, inexplicably both wearing pink shirts. I have no problem with pink shirts, but there were a lot of them last night.

Then here are the girls, Jen, mom, grandma and Ashley.

Let's get a group shot! Violet and Penny jump in.

Homewood Farmer's Market

Yes, you have all been to the farmer's market, but Homewood's market features a few great shops I wanted to mention. I would highly recommend these few to those who make thier way out here on Saturday mornings.

 Fatty's Cookies and baked goods

Img_1217

Seriously delicious cookies and brownies. Highlights include peanut butter toffee and oddly, chocolate chip. A bit on the spendy side for cookies, but worth it. David and Tracy are pictured.

Great, local alternative to my favorite, starbucks.

Don't be an ass and drive to the farmer's market. How far is it really from your place.

Space walk

Justin, my brother, was walking by the house today with his boys, Max and Jake (front).

They asked him to take them on a "space walk." So off they went.

Proud of myself for snagging those helmets for the dudes' second birthday.

That is one of the main jobs of an uncle or aunt: super cool birthday presents.

BBQs are for people who are interested in eating meat

Hey, listen, don't get all uppity, I eat meat. Every meal actually; sometimes I even eat meat for fourth meal. Can you believe this brilliant marketing plan didn't catch on better in today's culture? Let's just move on here.

Nothing too remarkable to report from the palate's perspective, outside of some seriously fresh, delicious and spicy guacamole Jen put together. We did have some great guests over, though, and had a wonderful time hanging out with Scott and Denise and their smart, ebullient and well-behaved children, Reagan, Noah and Logan. Those are three qualities I have been working hard to espouse in my own children.

I should also mention that they were very nice, which I consider to be the most important thing.

There they are now, posing with my girls. I wish Scott and Denise lived closer, because they are good people and we get along great.

So then we headed over to my parents for yet more meats. The whole posse was there and wouldn't you know it, the kids and I broke off a pretty serious train ride. Admit it, you wish you were the caboose.

I think I could get used to BBQs every weekend.

Photo shoot at US Dept of Energy at Argonne Natl Labs

Had the opportunity to art direct a great photog as he shot my father for a patient testimonial we are putting together for one of my hospital clients.

Outside building 201, where my father works. That's him in the center of the shot facing us, rocking the tie.

This building was likely very modern 15-20 years ago. Large pond with water lillies is still cool.

My dad intoduced me to at least 15 people. I tried to tell each one a different joke. While I was unsuccesful, he was still proud, which was really cool.

His office looks messy here, but he had actually just cleaned it. Dan Dry is the photog. Cool site at dandry.com.

This is not the set up we will use for the piece, but I included it anyhow. Dude is rocking cacti.
